Burford is seeking an Engineering Manager to join our manufacturing company. As a key part of the engineering team, this role will build and lead a team of engineers to maintain current product designs and engineering data. Responsible for maintaining the performance of products in production; engineering data management; administering the engineering change process; implementing design changes that improve quality and/or the manufacturing processes; ensuring regulatory compliance and achieve cost reduction goals. You will work closely with other departments, including R&D, Manufacturing, Technical Support, Service, Sales, and Quality Control as well as external customer support.
Responsibilities:
- Support or lead complaint investigations and product information requests.
- Responsible for providing and ensuring consistent project planning, technical development plans, risk assessments, coordinating and executing verification and validation testing, and ensuring design rigor throughout all projects.
- Provide leadership and direction including development of a high-performance team, talent and succession plan development, performance management, coaching, mentoring, training, resource/business planning, standards, and processes.
- Develop direct reports, with input from the Strategic and Core Project Leaders, by agreeing specific targets and goals, providing challenging and stretching tasks and assignments and holding regular development and career planning discussions.
- Ensure the correct mix of skills and experience is available in the team to meet business requirements.
- Regularly review and evaluate effectiveness and recommend changes to improve methodologies, systems, and processes to deliver the required service to the business.
- Ensure best practice is defined, documented, and adopted.
- Identify and scope the required work. Organize and build detailed plans including schedules, resource budgets, quality and risk management plans, and verification and validation plans. Prioritize work and organize timely responses to urgent situations.
- Manage timely investigation of Customer and Production quality issues, Root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Manage CAD activities utilizing internal and outsourced providers.
- Drive continuous improvement through effective utilization of group practices and processes.
- Support supply chain specialists and vendors to ensure that we provide alternates that adhere to Form/Fit/Function methodology.
- Develop, prepare, and submit monthly metrics, and implement additional measures as required to monitor or improve the performance of the department and business.
- Participate in annual CAPEX budget planning and propose new equipment solutions.
- Interview and hire new staff as needed.
- Administer Engineering Change process, including continuous improvements to maximize efficiency and communication effectiveness.
- Lead product improvement projects and guide engineering team members for quality improvement, cost reduction, and performance upgrades.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading engineering teams in the development of new products, solutions, and processes required.
- Natural ability to manage projects and to oversee the new product development efforts of the company
- Innovative mindset to come up with creative solutions to budget constraints or product design challenges.
