Current Product Engineering consists of the following:
- Initial quality and pre-delivery inspection: Standard operating procedures implementation, quality control measure implementation, and quality metric reporting for manufacturing performed domestically and internationally.
- Warranty/Field issue support and resolution: Failure analysis review, warranty data/metric review, technical troubleshooting assistance with aftermarket department
- Customer customizations and application engineering (Special Engineering Requests): Respond to inquiries requested through sales or service for product modifications, application review, feasibility review, quoting, configuration alternatives, new capacity ratings, new attachment implementation, design, testing, and production
- Production issues support for manufacturing in Wisconsin Dells: Provide support for manufacturing/supply chain team (welding, machine shop, assembly, and inspection), review substitution/deviation requests by supply chain
- Engineering Operations: Part setup in ERP, establishing processes, assisting sales team on order support
- OEM/Major account product model change request management
Functional areas of responsibility include design, testing, compliance, quality control and construction of all lift trucks. The individual possesses deep knowledge of systems and standards related to the construction of electric forklift vehicles including control systems, drive systems, hydraulics, operator interfaces, sensors, actuators, vehicle capacity calculations, operational safety factors, and relevant compliance standards such as ANSI, CSA, OSHA, and UL.
The manager will be directly responsible for managing a staff of engineers (5-6 engineers) onsite at Wisconsin Dells as well as working with our parent company's engineering team (EP Equipment) and manufacturing facilities in China related to all areas of responsibilities above.
Skills/Expertise/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Extensive experience with Zapi and Curtis control systems
- Knowledge of power systems, AC and DC electrical motors and controllers.
- Detailed knowledge of UL 583 Requirements and ANSI requirements as it relates to industrial trucks (B56.XX)
- Product development experience ideally in lift truck industry or other similar fields such as heavy machinery, off highway equipment, mobile equipment industry. Minimum 7-10 years experience
- Familiarity with lift trucks
- Experience and familiarity in new product development stage gate process
- Team leader with excellent leadership and management skills. Desire to serve the team and listen to feedback.
- Great oral and written communication skills
- Previous project management experience
- Able to work across multiple levels and across functional teams of the organization
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, entrepreneurial spirit and continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to work well self-directed-given objectives and project goals
- Ability to work at a fast pace, multi-task on several projects, and be highly accountable
- Electrical, mechanical, controls, and hydraulic knowledge/understanding
- Previous experience with China engineering and Chinese language a plus or at least working with different cultures
Travel: 10-15% consisting of 1-3 trips annually to our China factory, periodic meetings at partner/customer/dealer sites, and a few key customer visits and one large trade show/year
