    Role Overview

    As part of Citi's broad transformation strategy, GFT is presently undergoing a large-scale multi-year Agile transformation. Along with that transformation, we will need strong engineers, agile practitioners, and technical visionaries to drive the success of our nascent agile teams. To this effect, GFT are recruiting Data Engineering Managers at various levels to play a pivotal role in the execution of the strategy. A seasoned agile practitioner with experience of working with data intensive systems, you will inspire teams to create, evolve and deliver well thought out technical solutions against the roadmap using best-of-breed tooling and modern engineering practices.

    The Data Engineering Manager will typically manage 4-5 Engineering Leads, each of which front a 9-person scrum team.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Data Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

    Driving a culture of engineering excellence through the simplification, standardization and incremental improvement of data solutions and products; leverage shared services as appropriate.
    Making a significant contribution towards the creation, maintenance, and articulation of roadmaps.
    Building high quality products which data consumers love.
    Incorporating agile ways of working in the delivery process.
    Working closely with the Engineering & Architecture Practice to help shape roadmaps.
    Removing friction from the build and release process, questioning the status quo as necessary.
    Driving business outcomes collaboratively, resolving conflicts where required.
    Take ownership of issues and handle effectively through resolution.


    The Data Engineering Manager is expected to demonstrate:

    8+ years recent experience building and managing a data engineering team using agile delivery techniques.
    8+ years and practical experience of delivering large scale, secure data pipelines from ingestion to consumption.
    8+ years of experience using modern data platforms technology; solid understanding of RDBMS and NoSQL.
    4+ years of experience delivering solutions in hybrid cloud environments.
    Demonstrated ability to engineer for high availability, high resiliency, low latency and scale.
    An appetite to continue learning new technologies.
    Comfortable participating in design reviews.
    Outstanding people skills, promoting a diverse and inclusive environment for employees.
    Ability to effectively listen, communicate and influence team members, peers, and senior managers.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Extensive development experience in Ab-Initio.
    Experience with automation techniques including CI/CD.
    Experience of applying techniques such as BDD to data product development.
    Proficient in programming in Python or Java.
