Plans, organizes and directs the engineering department to meet company objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing product lines by performing the duties personally or through engineering staff.
Leads and develops the engineering team which includes hardware, mechanical, firmware and software engineers. Oversees project management process and delivery timelines to… keep projects on schedule and budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by engineering team members
Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be used, costs of project, equipment and human resource requirements and timelines.
Create detailed engineering plans, processes, procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by including complete ownership of Design Control Process, establishing standard operating procedures for department, understand and improving the ECO (Engineering Change) process, and responsible for the of storage of engineering design files.
Work with production and technical support to improve products and/or processes to reduce failures in production and the field.
Contribute innovative and efficient design techniques to allow rapid development of new product models and features
Ensure the updating of production documentation or electronic assemblies with corrective actions needed through the ECO process.
Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff
Understanding of Integrating electronic hardware, firmware, and software into complete systems.
Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs
Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes
Effectively communicate progress and problems to management and other departments.
Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally
Oversee environmental testing internally and externally at NRTLs (National Recognized Testing Laboratories)
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field. Each additional two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education.
Minimum of 2 years experience in electronic design in a manufacturing environment
Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
Ability to work individually or as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to problem solve and resolve complex technical/electrical issues
Project Management experience. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage project performance requirements within budget, resource allocation and timing constraints.
Knowledge of software design tools for electrical schematics, simulation and PCB layout
Proficiency in C and assembly language programming for embedded applications
Experience in design, repair and analysis of electronic systems.
