As the Sr. Engineering Manager of Quality Platform & Tools at Upstart you will be responsible for managing a team of Software Engineers & SDETs. This team's charter is to enable developers at Upstart to efficiently release high quality software by building tools and frameworks that improve productivity and reduce toil. We are constantly striving for excellence at Upstart and are looking for a smart, passionate and collaborative individual to help shape that culture across engineering.
Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote & Columbus, Ohio
Time Zone Requirements - This team operates on the East/West Coast time zones.
Travel Requirements - This team has regular onsite collaboration sessions. These occur 1-3 days per Quarter at the San Mateo or Columbus office . If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.
How you'll make an impact:
Hire, manage, grow and mentor a team of exceptional engineers to champion the team's charter
Shift testing left by building scalable tools, frameworks and CI/CD pipeline features used by hundreds of engineers to improve software quality and developer productivity
Proactively identify gaps across the company and provide thought leadership around building highly robust, highly testable & highly maintainable software at Upstart, positively influencing the company's culture around excellence
Collaborate on the organization wide initiative of moving to a microservices based architecture
Partner with product and platform engineering team to understand their development and testing challenges, design innovative solutions for them and evangelize software development best practices

What we're looking for:
Minimum 5 years of formal people management experience, managing a team of 8+ employees (ideally SWEs and/or SDETs)
8+ years of hands on technical experience building software tools and frameworks
Experience defining and presenting team plans, roadmaps and technical solutions and a strong ability to influence with or without authority
Comprehensive knowledge of testing processes, techniques and best practices and the ability to evangelize those throughout the entire organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The minimum base pay for this position in Colorado is $177,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay Act. It is specific to Colorado and may not be applicable to other locations.
