WorldRemit is looking for a Infrastructure Engineering Manager

    About the role

Working in the Infrastructure team, you’ll be helping us build and bring our cloud native infrastructure and platform, used by the global Engineering departments, to the next level . The work is varied; from helping engineering teams deliver features reliably, to designing and implementing new internal tools and techniques, improving resiliency and scalability. Our team is proactive and always involved.

We are a fast moving team operating in a growing Fintech company, supporting engineers on three continents. We are growing 50% year on year and this is continuing at pace. We use a modern tech stack –Jenkins, K8s, Harness, GitHub, Python, Terraform, Puppet, Chef – and GitOps and Agile working practices to get the job done.

As the Infrastructure Engineering Manager you will aim high, embrace challenges and always do what’s right; acting with integrity and building trust as you contribute to the company’s technical direction and long term decision making

Reporting to… the Director of Technology Reliability and Operations- Engineering, you will:

    • Manage and grow a team of Infrastructure Engineers ensuring the team is delivering best practices to support the business objectives. Ensure all members of the team have SMART objectives and development plans.
    • Use code to solve problems. Configuration, infrastructure, tooling, and automation, everything must be solved by writing code.
    • Build, scale, and secure infrastructure, focusing specifically on AWS and Azure environments
    • Combine open-source and commercial technologies to build services that will have an impact on the business.
    • Work in a heterogeneous environment containing diverse operating systems, applications, services and tools and make them work well together.
    • Apply modern engineering methodologies such as infrastructure as code, container orchestration, and software-defined storage to scale rapidly growing infrastructure.
    • Find ways to leverage the scale and complexity of the larger infrastructure to solve problems for customers and global engineering teams.
    • Be the final escalation point for issues related to cloud native infrastructure, components and systems.
    • Produce systems that are scalable, automated, and well-documented, train and support others to take on operations. Ensuring operating environments and infrastructure stay safe and secure.
    • Helping design processes. You’ll be working closely with feature teams to assist with the release of new products, as such there is plenty of scope to design processes that fit in with the overall direction but allow teams to deliver code to production reliably and at pace.
    • Helping design architecture. As well as owning the delivery of solutions you will also play a part in designing the architecture, how it interacts with dependencies from a logical and infrastructure viewpoint.
    • Growing together. You’ll review others' work and happily seek feedback on yours to ensure we build a better codebase and sharpen each other's skills.

What we’re looking for from you…

    • Experience with Application monitoring and observability tools and best practices, focusing on improving reliability of services by optimising the operational procedures and feedback loops to the teams with the ultimate goal of improving service reliability.
    • Ability to build a robust platform which can respond to varying demands from both external sources (traffic) and internal sources (feature team delivery) in a safe and controlled manner. Experience supporting or developing applications written in multiple coding languages (java, node.js, etc).
    • Systematic problem-solving approach. You should have an understanding of how to analyse, and troubleshoot large-scale distributed systems.
    • Holistic view on application delivery.
