    Purpose and Scope

    Engineering Manager Position for the Kennedy Propellant and Life Support Services (KPLSS) contract. Group includes System Maintenance Engineers, Design Engineers and Configuration Management.

    The position will be to oversee Mission Support planning and coordination; equipment Operations and Maintenance; project planning; mobile and fixed system design upgrades, and mission/maintenance test procedure development. The individual shall be responsible to oversee engineering analysis of systems, planning of system upgrades, troubleshooting, failure analysis and reporting, and development of equipment maintenance procedures to ensure reliability and readiness of propellant and life support systems at KSC.

    Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities

    • Lead engineering teams and act as a mentor to engineering team members.
    • Train other engineers on technical issues related to the research, design, development, testing and analysis of engineering assignments.
    • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
    • Directly interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
    • Ensure the quality of products and services delivered meets the customer’s requirements and expectations.
    • Possess strong working knowledge and design capability of pressurized pneumatic systems. Direct propellant and life support (P&LS) system troubleshooting, design, and development of tasks in specific areas.
    • Perform a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently providing supervision of contributing engineers.
    • Review of specifications, engineering drawings and test. Responsible for the readiness reviews of P&LS systems at KSC to meet mission/launch milestones.
    • Preparation of Technical Anomaly reports and presentations documenting system problems, concerns and resolutions.
    • Oversee the development and submittal of Operations and Maintenance Documentation (OMD). This may include drawing, spare parts analysis, pressure vessel system certifications, and operations and maintenance procedures creation and updates.
    • Interface with customers in multi-discipline design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with project requirements and specifications.
    • Conduct site visits to investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems.
    • Oversee department system engineers and design engineering deliverables to verify they meet current industry consensus standards (ASME, NFPA, NEMA, ANSI, IEC, etc.).
    • Be able to interpret and provide guidance for pressure vessel certifications, drawings and spare parts analysis.
    • Deliver engineering and expertise on time and on budget that is compliant with protocols, specifications, local and federal regulations.
    • Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.
    • Provide technical management and leadership to a group of employees for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule technical and employee performance.
    • Stay current on required training.
    • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university.
    • Experience: Ten years total engineering experience with at least five years in a supervisory capacity.
    • Specific Skills: Good oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of word- processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail- oriented work are required.
    • Knowledge of propellants, cryogenics, and pneumatics.
    • Ability to lead team resolution efforts to rapid conclusion.
    • Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline Engineering drawings.
    • Strong communication and analytical skills.
    • Certification: Licensed Professional Engineer - Must have PE
    • Have the demonstrated ability to lead and train other engineers.
    • Able to quickly learn complex technical information to develop expertise in this field.
    • Have a proven track record of delivering expected results. Results driven.
    • Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing and standard Microsoft Office software to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    May require some limited travel. May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

    Other Requirements:

    • Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
    • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

    Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

    This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
