As a Sr. Engineering Manager, Coffee Packaging, you will be responsible to act as a technical and people leader for a team of engineers in multiple geographies. As a part of the Supply Chain organization, the Coffee Packaging team is focused on developing packages that optimize cost, efficiency, sourcing resilience, and quality.

The Coffee Packaging Engineering team is responsible for… specification and qualification of all K-cup components, bagged coffee, and all associated secondary and tertiary packaging. As an engineering leader you will balance your time between packaging strategic direction, people development and project execution. This dynamic role will offer exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to develop our team’s technical depth and foster a high performing team within and outside of engineering.

The right candidate for this management and technical role will be comfortable in a lab setting developing new methods, leading design reviews, developing ways of working across functions, and having professional development conversations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Act as single point of contact for Operations, Procurement, Manage a team of engineering professionals
  • Develop resourcing plans in support of business needs for Productivity, business continuity, and innovation
  • Coach engineers of all levels to achieve new levels of technical rigor and deliver projects on time
  • Work in a cross-functional environment to gather new packaging requirements from brand, operations, procurement, and quality stakeholders.
  • Develop and refine specifications for packaging (Thermoforming, Injection molding, non-wovens, multilayer films, corrugate, and paperboard).
  • Validate, and lead execution of new materials for manufacturing scale-up.
  • Develop, test and document test procedures and success criteria.
  • Conduct lab/pilot/scale-up tests as well as factory acceptance tests
  • Design and perform targeted statistical experiments (DOE, Regression, Comparison Testing).
  • Determine quality requirements and support adherence to specifications.
  • Manage multiple external resources such as contractors and vendors.
  • Work closely with procurement and legal on contracts, IP and supplier agreements.
  • Work closely with internal plants, supply chain and raw materials suppliers.
  • Develop cost savings pipeline through continuous design to value approach
  • Provide the procurement and supplier quality departments with advanced-level technical support, including vendor selection, capabilities assessment, and material qualifications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Packaging Engineering required. (Masters a plus)
  • 8+ years of experience managing technical teams
  • Experience with development and testing of PET containers and plastic packaging materials required
  • Experience in Design to Value (DTV) required
  • Experience with CAD packaging software (SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, Tops, CAPE) required
  • Experience with producing technical documents (specifications, detailed drawings, structural drawings) required. Knowledge of GD&T a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
