    Job Purpose

    To manage a team responsible to ensure effective National Grid operations related to Company electric metering assets. Provide leadership and oversight of engineering services for AMI rollout, Grid Modernization, capital and O&M project work, short and long-term asset strategies, engineering evaluation and specification of electric meters and related equipment. Provide metering designs and standards that meet ANSI C12, ISO-NE OP18, and State PUC Requirements, support other business units with engineering and troubleshooting to meet local needs. Ensure effective operations, safe designs, as well as ensure other National Grid business units are provided with the appropriate technical expertise to meet local needs.

    This may encompass oversight of a range of duties including: meter engineering aspects of AMI implementation program, creation and updating of metering standards for AMI program rollout, product evaluation and specifications for meters and associated equipment, field support, ensuring ISO meter compliance, general support of all wholesale and retail meter installations, assignment of personnel to project teams who are responsible for design, engineering, and specification of equipment, and to represent the Company on ISO OP18 committee.

    Key Accountabilities

    Support Company initiative for innovation and modernization of our energy delivery infrastructure by leading meter engineering aspects of AMI implementation program

    Represent Meter Engineering responsible for design, engineering, and specification of metering equipment in AMI program.

    Lead creating and updating metering standards, procedures, and specifications for meters and associated equipment, provide field support and product evaluations, for AMI program rollout.

    Recruit, motivate and develop a technical team to support AMI innovation, commitment and engagement and improve long term performance.

    Work with Meter Data Services, Customer Meter Services, and other stakeholders to develop a strong team atmosphere to translate requirements and business objectives into well-defined project scopes with clearly defined business cases to support efficient project delivery.

    Ensure that the team deliverables are timely, feasible, fit for purpose and of superior quality.

    Lead the meter engineering process by developing assumptions, identifying all risks, calculating resource requirements, and managing all interdependencies between engineering disciplines to ensure a successful engineering outcome.

    Make authoritative technical engineering recommendations to support team members and provide innovative solutions which have a positive impact on business performance in the short and longer term.

    Promote the philosophy of safe working to team employees.

    Develop and implement plans to develop engineering in a geographically diverse professional team to ensure effective use of resources and effective solutions for internal customers.

    Be a change agent for newly developed engineering, asset management and capital delivery initiatives.

    Apply process improvement techniques and practices to promote continuous improvement and foster excellence in project engineering.

    Support Operations during storm emergencies as required. Train self and staff to be prepared to execute storm roles assigned.

    Provide leadership and oversight of Meter Engineering and support ISO compliant wholesale revenue meter points. This includes producing the annual testing and inventory report for the NYISO.

    Provide leadership and oversight to ensure that engineers execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in-line with relevant policies and processes.

    Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid.

    Provide leadership and oversight for engineers to undertake specific tasks of varying complexity in order to support colleagues in the design of technical solutions.

    Support Company initiatives for innovation and modernization of our energy delivery infrastructure (e.g., NY REV, MA Grid Modernization, SIRI, Docket 4600, etc.)

    Build upon technical/professional skills within own area of specialism in order to continually grow your personal contribution to the business.

    Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

    Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel.

    Strong leadership skills.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school with knowledge of power systems

    Advance degree, Professional License (PE) or certification is a plus

    Registered Professional Engineering License is preferred with 7-10 years’ professional development in an engineering field

    Familiarity with ASTM, EEI, NPCC, IEEE, UL, NESC, ANSI and ISO standards, rules, and criteria.

    Good working knowledge of relevant industry standards, safety standards, and existing electrical design codes.

    Master's degree desirable

    Valid Driver's License

    Preferences for Current Position:

    Professional Engineers License (or ability to obtain within 1 year) is a plus

    Meter Engineering work experience is preferred

    Salary

    $155,000 - $175,000 a year
