    Ranpak is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager

    Summary

    Set direction and standards to meet customer requirements for automation packaging solutions. Deliver complex systematic new products (NPI) from concept through commercialization via the Ranpak stage gate process, and support legacy automation products. Collaborate cross-functionally as needed, with R+D, IT, Marketing, Sales, Service, Quality and Operations and lead automation engineering efforts to enhance customer satisfaction. Provide product engineering leadership.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manage an engineering department by setting the dept. direction and standards for the development of automated engineered systems to provide automated packaging solutions.
    • Strong understanding of automation equipment design processes. Ability to lead development of complex equipment from a proven feasibility concept through to a solution launch and beyond. Spearhead technology architecture (future technologies) and lead modular design. Use and champion best practices as it relates to design for (dis)assembly, serviceability, and ease of use. Familiarity with DFMEA, DFSS.

    · Good understanding of equipment reliability, and key metrics such as OEE (overall equipment effectiveness, etc.)

    • Ability to develop automation systems that use industrial controls, robots, servo drives, actuators, vision systems, conveyance, HMIs etc
    • Ability to read electrical prints, understand control logic, use CAD design when needed, understand data exchange (SCADA, OPC/UA, etc.) and remote connection to equipment using EWON.
    • Ability to understand how to integrate software technologies as needed for interfacing systems (eg:to a client WMS) and data gathering/management. Eg: for Remote diagnostics, IIOT, and data science.
    • Creation of functional and performance specifications for products to meet internal and external customer needs.
    • Manage the delivery of any outside design partners/subcontractors as decided, to accelerate time to market. Includes reviewing proposals and ensuring delivery quality, and retention of IP.
    • Manage UL/CSA, CE and other safety/regulatory or legal certification needs, for manufactured equipment working with 3rd party and global teams where necessary.
    • Aid Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing and Operations in setting up new products for production and sale. Lead release management and change communication activities.
    • Support legacy products based on feedback from customers (internal and external), in partnership with Service and Quality.
    • Provide guidance to your team to keep projects on budget and schedule, and to expected quality standards.
    • Manage established product design engineering requirements and adapt as required to meet business needs. Includes Mechanical and electrical part drawings, assembly drawings, service kits, custom configurations, spare parts, etc.
    • Ability to work with global Automation engineering teams.
    • Lead projects and/or process improvement initiatives to ensure product performance and quality.
    • Supervise prototype builds and coordinate testing programs for new product releases and/or design changes.
    • Participate in projects including new product development, customized products, existing product maintenance, quality improvements, and cost reduction.
    • Manage the daily operations of your team, including hiring, performance feedback, recognition, communication, support, and consistent with Ranpak corporate values. Coach and develop direct reports in project management, communication, and technical leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics and/or Industrial Engineering. Technical excellence.
    • Min. 8 years of machine automation new product development experience is required.
    • Min. 4 years in a manager/team supervisory position.
    • MBA (business mindset to understand different automation and client system needs) and/or Professional Engineering certification.
    • Understanding and use of SAP is preferred
    • Preferred experience with solid modeling CAD systems, such as SolidWorks. Familiarity with PDM and PLM, iterative part release processes and configuration management for reuse.
    • Ability to plan well ahead, and problem solve. Ability to critically and systematically address technical problems which occur during new product development.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. At times you may interface with clients and/or company executives, so should have excellent presentation skills.
    • Good interpersonal skills-maturity, poise, and tact. Action oriented.
    • Strong ability to lead teams, develop skillset and manage multiple priorities
    • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
